Someone Is Having A Birthday Tomorrow!

"A little birdie told me that someone has a birthday tomorrow! So I thanked him for sharing that bit of news with me."

"Then I proceeded to devour him.
Well, what were you expecting me to do? I'm a cat!
For crying out loud people, don't be so unrealistic!"

"Happy Birthday Uncle John!!! Thanks for being my walking buddy and having so much patience with me!  Hope you have a GREAT day!!!"

Jacob's Sycamore Branch.

Posted this photo on the Gardener of Light blog, but its just too cute not to share here too. And here I can tell what else happened when I brought this branch into Jacob. First of all, he LOVES to chew on these! But, of course, it brings him a lot of unwanted attention from the other animals.

When he saw his nemesis, Ronan the Great White, watching him.... well that got him nervous.

So he went and put HIS branch into Blossom's crate. Guess he figured it would be safe in there.

Then Cormac found it!

And, of course, he set forth to investigate it thoroughly!

Seemed to really enjoy himself. That was one great smelling bunch of leaves!
Well, Jacob was not very happy about all of this. So he proceeded to pull his branch out of the cage. Had to try it several times before he got the right angle to pull it through the door. But he got it!!

Then Blossom decided that SHE wanted it in her crate!

So she pulled a little here and a little there!

And eventually got it in far enough where she was satisfied! What a bunch!
But hey, I certainly had a lot of fun watching it all!!!

Nice Morning!

It was a beautiful morning! Added more blocks to the terracing wall. The chickens really enjoyed themselves!!!! Found LOTS of insects! And a couple of spiders. I'm guessing from their point of view thats an awesome thing!  I NEED a LOT of dirt to fill in!

I'm using some pavers to hold the front! Eventually I'm hoping for a small patio area next to the shed. Gradually things will get finished around here!
Check out http://www.gardeneroflight.blogspot.com/  for a little more of how the morning went.

Can you find the squirrel nest? I haven't told Ronan where its located either. That would just irk him!

Trying to feed the outdoor cats REALLY well! Just in case the storm keeps everyone in hiding for a couple of days. Thats what worries me the most during tropical storms and hurricanes. I keep hoping and praying that the feral, and semi-feral cats like Mama Kitty here are all right. And the birds, and the squirrels, and the 'coons and possums! How do the bats feed themselves during a long spell of nasty weather? Etc..
And no, I don't seem to worry about most of my human neighbors. Of course, I don't enjoy most of them like I do the wildlife! ha ha ha

Off To The Vet We Go!

"Me and Blossom went to the vet's this morning! The ride was lots of fun! Uncle John came along to help with Blossom.... I wasn't sure what they meant by that, but now I know. She is a big chicken!!! They had to LIFT her into the car! ha ha ha   I went right in like a good boy. AND I hugged and licked Uncle John so much, he gave me a new nickname..... Goober!  I don't know what it means, but I like the way it sounds. Its sounds FUN!!! And thats the way I am!"

"Here is Uncle John trying to coax Blossom out of Mama's car. She REALLY didn't want to come out either. Wish she'd make up her mind! He was talking soooo nice to her and offering these awesome dried chicken treats!   And still nothing! She said she knew what was going to happen.... I told her to stop being a sissy!    Well, she was kinda right about what happened to us. But its for our own good. Mama AND the doc both said that! First of all, I gained six more pounds. How about that! Then they did a bloodtest on her and we both got shots. AND that thing they call "fecal sample"..... AGAIN!!! Sheesh!  Doc says I still have hookworms. They must really like me, 'cause we've tried to get rid of them and they just don't want to leave. I know everyone likes me, but those hookworm fellas NEED to go away NOW."

" We finally got all through! And then Blossom and Uncle John went out for a walk around the big front yard at my vet's office. I stayed in with Mama and visited everyone I could! Met a dog named Toby. He was a LOT more friendly than the dogs that were there when we first went in. One of them growled a little at Blossom and scared her even more!  Then I saw a couple of the folks who looked after me when I stayed there at the kennel. The lady asked Mama "how is the little dog doing?". ha ha ha     Mama answered "look for yourself! This is him".   They were SO SURPRISED!!!  I gave her a great big doggie hug! Everybody said I look so Great!  I love going to the vet's office. They're all so nice there, I can't figure out what Uncle John was talking about. He whispered that my next trip wasn't going to be so easy, but that he had my back. And then something about guys having to stick together on these sorts of things. Wonder what he meant by that?"

Mama Calls It "Tidying Up"!

"Howdy everyone! Came in from a spin in the yard, sandy nose and all! Haven't I grown a lot? And everyone says I'm even more handsome now. Mama said she was going to start tidying up things today. I had no idea what a mess she was going to make!!! And she fusses when Blossom and I do it. Sheesh!"

"I tried to stay out of her way by going over where she had to pull out the stove. The rain has caused leaks and it made a puddle under here where she couldn't see it. That was a bad thing! Boy, did she use some rough language when she discovered the mess! Even had to pull up something called 'linoleum'. She found there were two layers of it. I guess thats a bad thing too 'cause she sure let fly with some more rough language! Hooo boyee! Can my Mama ever cuss up a storm! Uncle Ahulee and me tried to cuss along to try and make her feel better. It worked too! She started laughing again."

"I kept having to move around! It was so hard to find a good place to nap. Plus I'm wearing this red harness thingie. She said its for practice, because I'm going to wear it to the doctor's tomorrow. Blossom had to practice with her's too. Uncle John is coming over and we're all going to ride in the car together. That ought to be lots of fun!"

"Didn't know how much longer I could keep acting like I was interested in what Mama was doing."

"Then I just couldn't anymore! I NEED my beauty rest!"

"Aunt Rory is so smart! She went into the other room and found a hiding spot to nap in. She never got disturbed there! She told me that wisdom and experience comes with age. And that someday I'll know what to do when things like this "tidying" happen!  What a relief to know that!"

Lazy August Afternoon.

Everyone was sound asleep yesterday afternoon. A smart thing to do when the temperatures outside are soooo hot. But, I WAS surprised to see this!

I've been noticing that when something scares Jacob, he'll run over and get behind Blossom! Then, of course, his barks are much more brave sounding. But I hadn't seen him sneak in and nap with her.  He really doesn't like it when she gets too far away or, heaven forbid, out of sight!  What a pair!

And Rory's sheer pleasure over a good scratch was too good to not post!
 Awww, thats feels so good!

No more information on the dogs down the street. Sounds like she got rid of a bunch of them. I hope and pray they're all safe and well cared for.

I Need An Underground Railroad.

So this is what I walked out my door and found yesterday evening. I went right back in and got more kibble to put out. All I had was cat food, but hey! these dogs weren't the least bit picky. Of course, they're from up the street. I felt so bad that I couldn't spirit them away to safety!! So this evening I sent the first two photos and an email to the Pasco County Commissioners. We'll see what happens. Hopefully something positive for the dogs over there.
This brindle female is beautiful. Very friendly, just "worried" acting. She couldn't believe she had fresh water and plenty of food. Don't think shes ever had that before.  She would make some caring individual a wonderful companion.
Then a smaller dark chocolate colored dog showed up . She must be Jacob's littermate. I've seen her before. The wound on her face was there a month ago, it looks worse now. She was sooo timid.  The brindle did show food aggressive behavior towards her... so I can guess where the facial wound came from. She was so frightened every time I raised the camera to take her photo. So I have none to show how cute she is!

Then this charcoal female showed up too. She looks even skinnier in reality. This one is an angel. So sweet! And craving attention, as well as sustenance.

Its so hard to imagine anyone heartless enough to neglect these beautiful dogs!  Please send out LOTS OF PRAYERS  that they are rescued soon and find loving forever homes!!!

Ronan's Window: Beware!

So, I see the squirrel is back again! He and his cohorts return every day to steal the sunflower seeds we put out for my bird watching activities! What a vexation. Oh well, at least some of the birds seem to ignore them. They come to my feeders regardless of these little interlopers.

But you never know what the future holds in store. Several times a day, the birds fall silent and abruptly fly away! Even the little thieves suddenly stop their criminal activities.

I've spotted the reason for this. And I must say, I'm greatly impressed!!!
What a handsome and powerful bird. I look forward to future sightings.
